Bermuda-headquartered White Mountains Re is in the advanced stages of an application to launch a Lloyd's syndicate in time to write 2011 business, according to Insurance Insider.

If successful in gaining approval from the Lloyd's Franchise Board, it would write a portfolio of non-cat specialty business - including UK and non-European international property on a direct and facultative basis - transferred in from White Mountains Re's London branch.
