One should never speak too soon, but so far 2017 appears to have been a relatively benign one for the power (re)insurance market, with a fairly modest claims experience.

The two most notable incidents have both stemmed from the Middle East, with a mechanical failure at a coal-fired steam turbine in Saudi Arabia at the start of the year estimated to have cost some $42mn, while a similar mechanical failure at a gas-fired steam turbine in the United Arab Emirates...
