US crop insurers digest watered-down reforms

US crop insurers and their reinsurers are digesting a diluted final version of the legislation governing the relationship between public and private cover.

There had been fears of significant withdrawal from the business by reinsurers whose margins would be squeezed by the initial proposals, with estimates of a 20 to 30 percent decline in their expected profits.
