TVA liability stand-off continues

Underwriters at the centre of one of the worst environmental pollution incidents in recent US history have still not reached a settlement some 20 months after the incident, it has emerged.

The coverage dispute relates to a potential $1bn in liability claims stemming from a massive coal ash flurry spill that occurred on 22 December 2008.

An ash dyke ruptured at an 84-acre waste containment area at the Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) Kingston Fossil Plant in Roane County, Tennessee.
