Texas Instruments takes $30mn Japan hit

Texas Instruments (TI) has reported a $30mn impact on operating profits in Q1 2011, due to 'costs resulting from the [Japan] earthquake'.

The company sustained substantial damage to one of its semiconductor fabrication plants (or 'fabs') following the Tohoku earthquake and operations were disrupted at a second plant.

TI, which was listed as the world's fourth largest semiconductor vendor in 2010, is covered for property damage (PD) and business interruption (BI) under its global property programme, Inside FAC understands.
