New Zealand quake losses could hit $5.5bn, says PartnerRe

PartnerRe has said insured losses from September's New Zealand earthquake could climb as high as $5.5bn, adding to expectations that other affected (re)insurers will be forced to hike their own loss estimates over the forthcoming weeks.

The reinsurer released the loss estimate as it raised its own expected share dramatically from $64mn to a range of $140mn-$160mn.

And while PartnerRe also believes that overall losses could come in lower at $4.5bn, this is still significantly higher than most current published...
