Japan CBI wordings ‘don’t fit the risk’ in many cases

One of the biggest concerns for companies facing contingent business interruption (CBI) claims following the Japan Tohoku earthquake and tsunami is that underwriters of the policies haven't understood the risks, according to a CBI claims expert.

"In terms of fac reinsurance back in the London market, sometimes we find that the wording doesn't really fit the risk at all," said Flemming Jensen, partner with forensic accountancy firm Matson Driscoll & Damico.
