Insured cat losses $37bn in 2010 says Munich Re

2010 was the sixth-worst year for natural catastrophes in the last 30, with insured losses reaching $37bn, according to research published by Munich Re.

These losses were underpinned by the sharp rise in the frequency of natural catastrophes in 2010.

Munich Re recorded 950 nat cats during the last 12 months, up from 900 the year before and considerably ahead of the 30-year average of 615.
