Hurricane Earl losses could approach $500mn

Modelling agency Eqecat said it expects insured losses from Hurricane Earl could approach $500mn if it moves closer to the US mainland.

However on its current path Eqecat expects insured losses of less than $100mn.

As of 2 September, Hurricane Earl has re-intensified into a category four hurricane, packing sustained winds of 145 mph as it tracks towards the US east coast, according to the National Hurricane Center (NHC).

The centre of the storm is presently located around 410 miles...
