D&F rates up by as much as 20 percent

Rates for direct and facultative (D&F) reinsurance were typically up by anything from 10-20 percent in aggregate in certain markets at 1 January, according to industry sources.

While loss-affected cat-exposed US and international D&F programmes often saw rate increases at the upper end of the range, even those that have not experienced losses saw rate increases, say commentators.
