Brit profits hit by investments, despite underwriting gains

Lloyd's insurer Brit reported a much-improved underwriting result, year-on-year, for the first half of 2017, but overall H1 profit fell due to a lower investment return.

The carrier reported an underwriting profit for the period of $42.4mn compared with $26.5mn for the prior-year period, and a marginally improved combined ratio, down 1.4 percentage points to 95.1 percent.
