Alex could hit hurricane strength

Alex, the first named storm of the 2010 Atlantic hurricane season, could hit Northern Mexico with hurricane strength winds in the middle of the week, according to forecasters.

Alex has just passed over the Yucatan peninsula, where storm winds of 40 knots buffeted Belize, Honduras and Guatemala. The latest storm track shows Alex entering the Gulf of Mexico (3:00am GMT).
