US insured crop losses could reach $10bn

Payments for crop losses by US farmers have reached record levels in excess of $9bn and look set to go over the $10bn mark, according to a Kansas-based trade organisation.

Payments for insured losses have reached $9.1bn, according to National Crop Insurance Services (NCIS), the crop insurance industry's trade association, which represents every company participating in the Federal crop insurance programme.
