2011 upstream energy losses set to reach $3bn

While the upstream energy market experienced a largely catastrophe-free year in the absence of a major US windstorm event in the Gulf of Mexico, recent significant risk losses have increased the sector's total to nearly $3bn in 2011, Inside FAC understands.

Windstorm Dagmar could have pushed this figure even higher in December, but ultimately caused only limited disruption to oil and gas output in the Nordic region, according to catastrophe modelling firm AIR Worldwide.
