In their recent 1 July reinsurance renewals reports, the "big three" brokers all portrayed a market that continues to be extremely soft, with the rare exception of a few niche sectors and localised areas.

Given the scale of the Chile earthquake, with declared losses already at £6.8bn and set to increase further, it is perhaps understandable that renewals in this country have bucked the wider trend.
