Ouch. Losses to the London market from old Italian medical malpractice business keep on coming. Most recently, Lloyd's insurer Marketform has reported a £90mn loss for 2009, on the back of a sharp deterioration in the claims record of its Italian public hospital med mal book.

And Marketform is far from alone. In its 2009 report and accounts, Brit said that its "portfolio management approach" has caused it to withdraw from some European medical malpractice insurance markets that...
