Judging by the feedback from the 1/1 reinsurance renewals, it has been a difficult period for the industry, with rate reductions across the board.

There are exceptions in a few areas such as some mid-US programmes with significant tornado/hail exposure, which did actually incur some significant losses during the course of 2009.

In the rest of the market there was no major hurricane loss, while significant man-made losses halved. As such, the picture seems to have been one of softening,...
