September passed with no significant hurricane activity in the United States - at last providing breathing space for a market ravaged in recent years by significant Gulf of Mexico (GOM) losses. Underwriters and brokers could relax, safe in the knowledge that the worst part of the season was over and that 2009 was going to be a benign loss year.
