Let’s get the downsides out of the way quickly. Yes, for many booming economies fossil fuel power stations are the cheapest and easiest way of supplying their plentiful energy demands. Coal in particular is an economically inexpensive fuel with many sources around the world and thus offers a more stable supply of energy than alternative sources.
