2011 set to cost $107bn says Aon Benfield

2011 produced $107bn in total insured losses from natural catastrophes - the second highest figure on record - according to research by Impact Forecasting, Aon Benfield's catastrophe modelling arm.

The Annual Global Climate and Catastrophe Report is the latest round-up to suggest that 2011 losses will go past the $100bn mark. According to Aon Benfield, only 2005 topped it with insured losses of $120bn - of which $90bn resulted from the major hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma.
