2011 major losses top $50bn in first quarter

Estimated major losses during the first three months of 2011 already exceed the entire total for 2010, Inside FAC understands, with facultative writers expected to shoulder a sizeable share of the burden.

According to Aon Benfield, catastrophe claims during the first quarter of this year are expected to cause insured losses of $52.6bn - greater than the $42bn figure for the whole of 2010.
