When it comes to the rating of large, complex risks, there really can't be that many sectors more volatile than energy, especially on the offshore side of things.
Historically, of course, we've only had to look to the Gulf of Mexico (GoM) for the biggest swings either side of a massive US hurricane. More recently, however, it has actually been rather quiet in the Gulf and underwriters have had three years now without a significant windstorm wreaking havoc...
